Primary school teacher, musician and composer, Karen specializes in creative activities that make writing and music making fun, exciting and rewarding.

Karen's visits:

Story telling: Interactive session with puppets, songs and actions.

KEY STAGE 1

​

Musical Stories: Enhancing traditional story-telling with musical sound effects. Involves group work, writing, editing, music-making and speaking aloud.


A Whole New World: Giant junk-modelling to create a fantasy setting, from which to develop a story, as King Krispie-Cake sends children on an adventure to find out who stole his cakes! Involves poetry, letter-writing, story telling and creative writing. A whole-day workshop with one class-sized group.

Knights of the Wobbly Table: Sir Trumpsalot, the time travelling knight from the book, will visit with Karen bringing medieval mischief to help the children explore the book through drama, song and creative writing.

KEY STAGE 2

​

From Ballad to Rap: Exploring how music is used to make stories memorable, we look at some traditional story poems (eg. The Highwayman) and the Ballad of Sir Trumpsalot from Knights of the Wobbly Table. Then, using rhythm and rap, come up with our own musical stories. 


Knights of the Wobbly Table: Sir Trumpsalot, the time travelling knight from the book, will visit with Karen bringing medieval mischief to help the children explore the book through drama, song and creative writing.


Making a Musical: A whole day with one class-sized group creating script, scenes and songs for a unique musical created by the children.


Through the Portal: Go on a time travelling adventure through creative writing, with a bit of singing too.

 

Dare to Diary? Delve into the diary format through Karen’s book, My Wicked Stepmother - The Diary. Creative writing in the first person, using humour and emotion.

KEY STAGE 3 and 4

​

Discussing Dystopia: Explore this genre through Karen’s Breaking Trilogy. Creative writing,
analysis and discussion.
